Her huge TLC 2018 victory ensured that Asuka will close a difficult 2018 on top. Yes, she profited from Ronda Rousey's interference, and yes, it's hard to see her supplanting Becky Lynch or Charlotte Flair as SmackDown's true alpha female, but it was the biggest win of her main roster career thus far, and could be the tonic needed to revive her much-diminished act.

Asuka's undefeated streak met its end at WrestleMania 34. Felled by Flair in a classic Women's Revolution encounter, she slid down the rankings thereafter. Rather than rebuilding 'The Empress Of Tomorrow,' WWE dealt further damage by having her engage in a wholly destructive feud with Carmella, during which the once-fearsome Japanese star was continually presented as a witless moron. A pointless spell as Naomi's goober sidekick followed. For the most part, Asuka was done as a major star. 'The Empress' had fallen.

Recent months have brought signs of revival, though it'll take much work to replenish her imposing aura and mystique. Her late-year victories were huge. Let's hope her momentum carries on into 2019, as there's a lot WWE could do with another woman on Becky, Charlotte, and Ronda Rousey's level.
