Seven years after he laid Shawn Michaels' career to rest, The Deadman faced his own curtain call at WrestleMania.

The signs were there from the start. The match was made the main event, ahead of two world championship matches. Jim Ross was brought out to commentate, something that had always been promised for 'Taker's last match.

The Phenom clunkily battled his way through a match with Roman Reigns. It was about as smooth as a porcupine covered in sandpaper and a clear indicator that the icon was now past his prime.

Reigns eventually put 'Taker down with a ferocious Spear, handing him only his second ever loss at WrestleMania. Then, with no announcement, 'Taker left his hat and gloves in the ring, slid outside, kissed his wife at ringside, and walked off down the ramp, seemingly for the final ever time.

The Undertaker had been part of the company through its highest highs and its lowest lows. He'd been a leader, both on and off screen, and a favourite for millions of wrestling fans across generations.

In the moment, this was a beautiful ending to a amazing legacy.

It's a shame that it barely lasted a year.
