10 Best WWE Wrestlers Of 2016 (So Far)
6. Dean Ambrose
The Lunatic Fringe may be the WWE World Heavyweight champion entering the second-half of 2016, and arguably the most popular Superstar on the entire roster, but Dean Ambrose did not have the type of sparkling in-ring returns that would have guaranteed him a spot in the top five of this list.
His year kicked off excellently with a strong and dramatic performance in the Royal Rumble. Despite everyone and their mothers knowing that Triple H was leaving with the world title to set up a showdown with Roman Reigns, Ambrose made fans believe for a split second that he may leave the Amway Center in Orlando with the gold.
He followed that performance up with a stellar match against The Game at Roadblock and a Triple Threat match against Reigns and Brock Lesnar that had made him the hottest wrestler in the industry ahead of WrestleMania, despite not winning either one. Then, at the Showcase of the Immortals, he delivered a turd against Lesnar in a Street Fight that was, for all intents and purposes, a glorified squash won by The Beast Incarnate.
He rebounded nicely with a great match against Chris Jericho at Payback but delivered another clunker in the form of an Asylum match at Extreme Rules. The slow build nature of both of those less-than stellar matches plagued them, taking the audience out of the action before it hit its crescendo.
Luckily, he is red hot following a Money in the Bank pay-per-view that saw him win the titular match and then cash in to win his first world title after two years of trying.
More consistency will be key to a higher ranking for the fan-favorite at year's end.
