10 Better Ways WWE Could Utilise The British Fanbase
9. NXT:UK
NXT has proven to be a popular choice among hardcore or more educated wrestling fans. Quite often, the actual in-ring wrestling is better than the matches offered on the WWE's main shows. NXT is Triple H's baby and the matches are largely presented as more sporting contests than sports entertainment. During their quarterly live specials on the Network, the concept of how important wins and losses are have been pushed as the driving force behind the shows, as opposed to convoluted storylines. As a result, NXT has become a refreshing break from the usual WWE product. Not only this, but some excellent developing wrestlers as well as experienced world-travelled professionals make up their roster, with KENTA and Prince Devitt the most recent exciting arrivals. Of course, it would be rude not to mention that the current NXT Champion is a Brit, Adrian Neville. About seven or eight years ago, the WWE was considering setting up global franchises around the world, in localised products which were affiliated with the WWE. It was almost like a global re-enactment of when Vince McMahon went around the United States, swallowing up the traditional territories. The UK promotion that I commentated for, Real Quality Wrestling, was considered for the role of WWE:UK, however, the WWE eventually decided that they were not going to go down this path. However, a UK Tough Enough could be the launchpad for a British developmental territory, with main roster WWE stars making occasional visits to the promotion. In the same way that professional football operates on a pyramid system, with a Premier League that is marketed worldwide, followed by smaller league teams and regional non-league teams, this could work in the same way, with top NXT:UK stars being promoted to NXT and then onto the main roster if they succeed.
