10 Big Bumping Wrestlers Who SUFFERED For Their Art
1. Mick Foley
Mick Foley’s career has many bloody and brutal moments, a compilation would be more disturbing than crime scene photos linked by string on an investigation board.
In 1994, Foley infamously lost two-thirds of his ear in Germany, when it was trapped in the ropes during a clash with Vader. In America, he defined hardcore wrestling, competing in the three major US promotions of the ‘90s, but one match and two bumps are forever seared in the subconsciousness of wrestling fans. His Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker at King of the Ring 1998 was as iconic as Foley’s falls were barbaric.
At WrestleMania 22, he proved that even in retirement his penchant for hardcore was more than a mere memory. During a hardcore match against Edge, Foley took a savage spear through a flaming table.
The American leg of his storied career pales in comparison to his battles in Japan. During IWA Japan’s 1995 King of the Deathmatch event, Foley competed in three violent contests, each more sadistic than the last. His final war against Terry Funk left Foley with second-degree burns and more stitches than the cast of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
