10 Big Bumping Wrestlers Who SUFFERED For Their Art

4. Terry Funk

Late-career Terry Funk is a master of the hardcore style of wrestling, arguably suffering more than anyone else on this list. At that stage in his run, his matches were often defined by sadistic weapons, big bumps, and plenty of blood. His barbed wire match at Born to be Wired is ECW’s pinnacle of violence. It is less of a wrestling match as it is a decimation of two bodies.

Funk has spilt blood around the world. The high (or low depending on your outlook) point of Funk’s violent bumps occurred during his King of the Deathmatch war with Mick Foley. Not only were Funk’s bumps brutal, but his fall was also predominantly broken by barbed wire and C4 explosives.

Funk’s time in WWE was a little less extreme. The New Age Outlaws infamously locked him and Foley in a dumpster, which they shoved off the entrance stage sending both men plummeting to the concrete below. Funk was allowed to bring a brief dose of extreme to the often-panned WWE ECW. At ECW One Night Stand (2006), he took the opportunity to reacquaint his body with barbed wire tables, bringing the extreme to the WWE faithful.
