10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE Extreme Rules 2021
3. Bianca Belair In A No Win Situation
This Sunday is a tricky one for Bianca Belair.
Ever since winning the belt from Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37, Belair has been great as the spearhead of the SmackDown women's division. Unfortunately, the writers' room hasn't been on the same form.
With a superstar as unique and physically gifted as Belair, it shouldn't be too hard to build basic storylines that propel those gifts front and centre. She's the EST for the reason, so show this, don't just tell it. Dull feuds with Bayley and Carmella has meant her title reign never really got going, with many predicting her dropping the belt to Banks at SummerSlam.
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Banks couldn't make SummerSlam but was replaced by a returning Becky Lynch and an awkward heel turn for the returning superstar. No longer 'The Man', 'Big Time Becks' is in the midst of a new gimmick and heel turn and having her lose the belt now would be a poor move. With ratings a pressing concern, putting the belt on the biggest breakout star of the last few years makes a lot of sense, despite how awkwardly her new character turn has been handled.
This is bad news for Belair. She looked foolish at SummerSlam and with her underwhelming reign over, she is likely to lose this rematch and then down the food chain she will tumble.
