10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE Royal Rumble 2021
8. Last-Minute Additions
Over the past year, creative have built their way towards PPVs with shockingly sparse match cards. Sometimes they left those match cards sparse heading into the event, making for a short but enjoyable night of action. Other times, however, they have compensated for their baffling booking by either throwing in a heap of matches on the final editions of Raw and SmackDown or waiting until the day of the event to announce the new additions ahead of the Kickoff Show.
You don't have to look hard to find a wrestling fan who understands that PPVs are all about build. They are, after all, the major events of the year designed to feature huge matches and the reason that those matches are supposed to be as larger-than-life as they are is all down to the build.
Last-minute additions are often fodder designed to pad out the card with more action and that right there is the very antithesis of a PPV. Be it no build, a last-minute rematch or a meaningless exhibition match that could have taken place on Raw or SmackDown, they often cheapen the notion of what a PPV is.
Let's just hope the creative team doesn't feel the need to add some of these to the card now.
