10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE SummerSlam 2020
1. Randy Orton Fails To Win The WWE Title
Despite the doubts we might have with Randy’s potential showing in the match, he should beat Drew McIntyre for the WWE championship.
There are a few reasons for this, none of which involve Drew being a bad champion. He’s done a great job on top, being solid on the mic, remaining well-liked by the fans throughout every title defence and match on Raw and has acclimated well to the top of the card. Drew has done the impossible and remained loved by fans throughout the post WrestleMania period of shows, and deserves acclaim for it.
While there’s the valid argument that putting over Drew is more important right now, Orton’s currently the only star on Raw that could pull off a victory over Drew and have it be genuinely affecting. There’s no one else that Drew hasn’t beaten who is a contender, and Orton’s got a built-in emotional feud with Edge as soon as his tricep recovers. Randy is better right now than he’s ever been, and that momentum being damaged by a one-off title shot feels like a waste. Having Orton winning would also protect the inevitable epic reign of Drew for when crowds can cheer on his victory.
Drew retaining isn’t the end of the world, his reign lasting longer will lead to fun matches, but it’ll feel like a waste to see him trying to elevate midcard heels who have no chance at dethroning him when he could create a gigantic shocking moment with Orton here.
