10 Big Mistakes WWE Made At SummerSlam 2016
2. Brock Lesnar
Okay, we really need to talk about Brock Lesnar.
We may talk about Brock Lesnar a lot, but we need to talk Brock Lesnar within a World Wrestling Entertainment context. What exactly does Brock bring to the table now? Name value, mainstream media coverage, casual fan interest and a certain superstar quality, to name just four things. Brock Lesnar is a unique beast in the wrestling world.
It is this last point that is the real issue with Brock Lesnar. The divide between 'WWE Superstar' and 'Brock Lesnar' has grown to the point of no return. This entire 'Suplex City' thing was great fun two years ago when Cena was being decimated, because it was shocking and new. Lesnar's destruction job to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31 was also fun, because of the intensity of it all.
But Lesnar phoning it in against Ambrose at WrestleMania 32 or opposite Orton here? No thank you.
What is this all building to? If Randy Orton faces off against Lesnar at a big show down the road and gets a clean win then, sure, there's a point, but is that going to happen? Whilst it is great to have standalone beasts in wrestling, the whole point of the game is for good to overcome bad. If Lesnar just continues smashing things into the ground, where is the inspiration?
If Lesnar is only willing to put over dick-kicking zombie part-timers or those in power in the company, what point is there to this? With each passing year, Lesnar dominating in this fashion becomes less interesting and less valuable.
