10 Big Mistakes WWE Will Probably Make Before 2017

2. Not Capitalising On The Miz

The Miz’s promo on Talking Smack has been the talk of the internet this week, and for good reason. It was the most convincing performance that Miz has ever produced throughout his 10-year WWE career, and a big jolt of attention for one of SmackDown’s struggling superstars.

Miz delivered his words with the fire of a man who’d been waiting years to say them. His frustration was abundantly clear as he laid into Bryan’s failings as General Manager (and as a wrestler), and Miz staked a powerful claim for greater respect as Intercontinental Champion. It’s the shot in the arm that his ailing midcard career needed, and if played right, it can be a catalyst not just for The Miz’s rebirth, but the IC Title’s rebuilding process.

WWE must follow up on it. There’s simply too much attention on the angle for them not to, and if Miz returns to the same old holding pattern on next week’s SmackDown, it’ll be incredibly disappointing. Miz has more eyes on him now than he’s had in years, and whatever route WWE choose to go down, they must make the most of his incredible momentum.

Sadly, there’s a strong chance they won’t. The Miz isn’t CM Punk, and as strong as his promo was, it wasn’t quite as visceral or powerful as Punk’s famous pipe bomb. Cynicism suggests that WWE will have Bryan emasculate The Miz on next week’s show as revenge, and then move on as if nothing ever happened.
