10 Big Talking Points From WWE Fastlane 2017
9. Tag Team Championship Finish
As touched upon in the intro, some of the finishes from Fastlane make for a rather sore subject. In the Tag Team Championship bout, though, we were at least provided with one outcome that can’t really be argued with. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson successfully defended their Raw tag team titles against Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and though the match was by no means a classic, its finish was certainly able to tick all the necessary boxes.
For starters, it was important to have Gallows and Anderson win this one, largely because (other than being fed to Roman Reigns) they’ve done little of note since winning the belts back on the Royal Rumble pre-show.
Plus, having them win in crafty fashion—Gallows nudging Enzo’s foot off the bottom rope while Anderson scored the cover—helps to protect Enzo and Cass to some degree, whole it also reinforces the idea that the champs truly are a well-oiled tag team machine.
By all accounts, this was probably the best outcome we could have hoped for, and certainly a better alternative to having the champions win via disqualification or, worse, the dreaded roll-up.
