4. The Ending Of Charlotte’s Streak
Speaking of the grand scheme of that match, perhaps the biggest talking point to come from the Raw Women’s Championship bout was the fact that Charlotte lost to Bayley, making this her first-ever singles defeat in PPV competition.
With a headline stat like that, this one was always going to garner plenty of debate, not least because it was such a landmark moment that arrived at a B-level PPV like Fastlane, of all places. Surely it would have been more impactful to have had Charlotte’s first defeat arrive just four weeks later at WrestleMania, or even later than that at any one of the other Big Four shows?
Perhaps the streak was simply ended for the sake of shaking things up and trying to inject an element of surprise into an otherwise predictable Fastlane show. But even if that were the case, there were other ways of adding in some shock value which wouldn’t have resulted in sacrificing a record that was almost two full years in the making.
Of course, the nature of the match's conclusion does leave open the possibility of Stephanie McMahon nullifying the result on Raw the following night...
