10 Big Talking Points From WWE Raw (July 11)
5. Compound Fracture
Last week, TNA made headlines with "The Final Deletion," a campy mini-film that featured a battle between feuding brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy. The video was well-received, drawing praise from fans and wrestlers alike, and so WWE decided to offer their own shoddily-produced "movie" as a response.
This one, as teased last week on Raw, involved The New Day paying a visit to The Wyatt Family's backwoods compound. What we got was a grainy video featuring a fight between both stables in a field, complete with pickup trucks and animal horns. When one team would get the advantage, the other would come back. This went on for several minutes, but The New Day eventually got the upper hand. At that point, dozens of other men in sheep masks emerged from the darkness, sending the WWE Tag Team Champions retreating.
In case I didn't make it clear, this was pretty bad. In a sense, it was reminiscent of the old Junkyard Invitational in WCW, which was infamous because it was so dangerous and so poorly filmed. All six men were putting their bodies on the line in an environment far more hazardous than a wrestling ring, and the way it was shot made it hard to even tell what was happening. This was a huge swing and a miss.
