10 Big Talking Points From WWE Royal Rumble 2017
3. Goldberg Destroys Lesnar (Again)
The Undertaker and Braun Strowman’s eliminations were certainly noteworthy, but neither quite compares with that of Brock Lesnar.
Much like Strowman, Lesnar had immediately made a mark on the match, quickly consigning Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler and Enzo Amore to early showers. But after just four-and-a-half minutes in the ring, his stint was cut abruptly short by his old enemy Goldberg, and in the most dramatic of ways at that.
Goldberg’s entry at number 28 set up a face-to-face showdown between the Survivor Series foes, but this time it was over ever quicker than that infamous meeting back at the November PPV last year. Goldberg hit a Spear and then promptly hauled Lesnar over the top rope for a speedy elimination.
As unexpected as it may have been though, this was the perfect way to set-up their probable blow-off match at WrestleMania. Goldberg well-and-truly has Lesnar’s number now, and yet Lesnar is still clearly head and shoulders better than anyone else on the roster, as demonstrated by his dominance prior to Goldberg’s arrival.
Another well-executed elimination, this one has somehow managed to get me hyped for a meeting we’ve already seen a number of time before, so kudos to WWE.
