10 Big Talking Points From WWE Survivor Series 2017
2. Raw Is Undoubtedly The Top Brand
Something else that was firmly established at Survivor Series was Raw’s standing as the number one brand.
Not only did the Monday night show win four matches to SmackDown’s three, they also racked up their wins in arguably the four most significant matches. Raw won both of the five-on-five elimination matches—and in fairly one-sided fashion in the men’s match in particular—whilst Brock Lesnar also came up trumps in the battle of the top-tier champions and the Shield beat the New Day in the meeting of two of the company’s standout factions.
As the brand with the most history under its belt, Raw is always the favourite to win at these inter-brand events, but the company could’ve at least preserved a shred of dignity in defeat for SmackDown.
Early betting odds had pegged Raw to win four matches to SmackDown’s three, but for two of SmackDown’s wins to have arrived in the showpiece elimination matches. Surely that would have been a more well-balanced outcome than having Raw win the most matches and trounce SmackDown in the most high-profile ones?
