10 Big TNA Signings That Were Completely Wasted

2. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy ranks high here, as even though he was often given a decent push in the company they still lost a lot of money by not using him right. Basically, he was absolutely wasted in TNA (feel free to insert Victory Road 2011 jokes here).

Jeff’s first run in TNA in 2004 to 2006 was a bit of a mess. It was clear that the man’s heart and mind weren’t in wrestling at the time, so he had lackluster battles with everyone from A.J. Styles to Jeff Jarrett. After missing a few shows, and arriving late to a few others, he was cut. He returned to WWE, and his career reached new heights. When he returned to TNA in 2010, the company finally had a top babyface to build around. They chose not to.

Now, a common complaint of TNA is that they pushed WWE has-beens over their own talent, but at the time Hardy was still one of the most popular wrestlers in the world. Next to John Cena, he was the second most-over babyface in WWE. Inserting him into the number one slot in TNA, then lining up a series of heel challengers was a great way to finally make some money.

Hardy, though, played an upper supporting role, and had to share the spotlight and exchange wins and losses with everyone else. He was finally given the TNA Heavyweight Title...but as a heel. He was pretty good in the role, but the company threw away a ton of money and fan support (for them) to swerve us. It was a ridiculous call, and made their show a mess.

While Jeff re-discovered himself as a character in 2016 as part of the Broken Universe, TNA wasted key years of his career, because they had no idea what they had in the Charismatic Enigma.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
