10 Big TNA Signings That Were Completely Wasted
6. Kevin Nash
You can say all you want about Kevin Nash in late WCW (and please do, it’s kind of fun!) but in TNA, the man really was willing to step aside and put over younger talent. TNA never took much advantage of it, though.
When Nash was first brought into the company, he was one of the highest paid members of the roster, which made sense. It was fine to bring in a couple of recognizable names from the past to create some interest in fans who were unfamiliar with the product, but the problem is TNA kept bringing in one former big star after the next. It felt like a retirement club more than a wrestling promotion.
For many fans, Nash was still a beloved figure when he joined TNA, as along with Scott Hall and Hulk Hogan they brought wrestling back to the main stream. While he did receive a couple of big singles pushes in TNA, he was often a background player and...dare I say...a bit underutilized.
If you’re going to pay an aging former main-eventer a lot of money to come in, then he should be used to align himself with younger talent and put them over. Nash’s pairing with Alex Shelley in Paparazzi Productions was pure gold, and it wasngreat to see Nash play a more comedic version of Shawn Michaels and Diesel back in the day. Unfortunately, the company pulled the plug on it, and moved Nash away into a singles act.
By the time Nash started doing jobs to guys like Samoa Joe, the matches weren’t built up enough or treated like a big deal to mean anything. Big Daddy Cool really did deserve a bit better.
