Lacey Evans' pregnancy is infinitely more significant than her potentially missing out on her first run with a worked wrestling belt, but Ric Flair's onscreen love interest taking the Raw Women's Title from Asuka at Elimination Chamber 2021, then dropping it to Charlotte at WrestleMania 37, looked a distinct possibility before this week's show.

It fit three different patterns:-

1. The continued marginalisation of Asuka and her title reign.

2. CHARLOTTEWINSLOL.

3. The Queen's ongoing beef with her pop's kayfabe baby daddy.

An easy story to tell, even if it wouldn't have been the most popular. It's hard to see who the Evans/Ric/Charlotte deal appeals to aside from Vince McMahon. Fortunately, we no longer have to endure it.

Instead, we're going to see Charlotte claim the Raw Women's Title without going via Lacey. Probably.

Evans is off the Elimination Chamber card, leaving Asuka without an opponent. Enter Flair. The race to her beating her father's record of 16 World Championships never stops and while this doesn't make much storyline sense, when has that ever stopped WWE before? This week's Raw saw Adam Pearce dismiss Braun Strowman's Elimination Chamber case as he isn't a former WWE Champion, then hand a similar opportunity to John Morrison (via The Miz), another non-champion. None of this matters.

Asuka regaining the strap at 'Mania, or Rhea Ripley avenging last year's loss, could make this more palatable. That's the silver lining.
