If you go back 10 years and tell any WWE fan that one day, they'll miss John Cena, they'd call you crazy. How could that be possible? John Cena had been shoved down the audience's collective throat for more than half a decade at that point, what could be better than not having to deal with LOL CENA WINZ anymore? An absent John Cena? Where do I sign?!
But here we are, heading towards 2021, and the missing presence of Big Match John is sorely felt by all levels of the WWE Universe. You can argue that he was the last true superstar, a famous face that was as big as the company he represented. He also improved immeasurably in the ring, becoming as reliable a big match performer as anyone in WWE.
He matured, in short. John Cena hasn't been a consistent presence in WWE for years but there remain many milestones for the man to achieve. He never won the Intercontinental Championship, for one, but nobody cares about that title. What people care about is the World Championship and a famous record that comes with it.
At the time of writing, John Cena stands alongside Ric Flair at the top of that mountain with 16 title reigns. Randy Orton is close behind with 14, and The Viper has every chance of ending his career ahead of both Cena and Flair. With that in mind, what price Cena breaking the record in 2021? As far as dark horse bets go, this one seems quite likely.
