'Captain Charisma' is another example of best friends and tag team partners falling apart.

Christian's best friend, 'The Rated-R Superstar' Edge, was on course to rise to the top of the card in 2001, having just succeeded in winning the King Of The Ring tournament. Christian and Edge were members of the 'RECK' faction, which also contained Kurt Angle and Rhyno. All four members of the group reached the semi-finals of the tournament, which created friction between them after Edge ultimately triumphed.

After the pay-per-view, the team remained together until September, albeit with cracks beginning to show. On the 3 September episode of Raw, Christian snapped and hit his former best friend with a one-man 'Con-Chair-To', turning heel and joining 'The Alliance' in the process.

Christian claimed that he reached his breaking point after seeing Edge's success and decided to take matters into his own hands. He viewed his former tag partner's success as undeserved and wanted to prove his worth.

Christian's history with Edge stemmed back to their childhood, which made this backstabbing much more heartbreaking and it stunned WWE fans around the world, with the former best friends falling apart and beating each other bloody.
