It would be wrong to make a list about betrayals and not include one of the more recent, heartbreaking attacks.

When Edge returned at the Royal Rumble, it was clear to see that the 'Rated-R Superstar' had not changed at all. Physically, he was fitter than ever and it was obvious that he felt mentally more prepared than he had ever felt before. The crowd reaction in Minute Maid Park was off the charts. Edge received a gargantuan pop from the WWE Universe and it became clear at that moment, that it was not a special appearance, it was a fully-fledged return.

The following night on Raw, Edge came out to lay his cards on the table for the WWE Universe. He was there to make his intentions clear moving forward. After addressing the crowd for a few minutes, his former tag team partner came out and congratulated him on his return. Randy Orton teased a 'Rated-RKO' return, before demonstrating exactly why you cannot let your guard down around 'The Viper'.

He hit Edge with a vicious RKO and followed it up with a brutal flurry of attacks with a steel chair, making a painful statement of intent.

The crowd in attendance were stunned into silence, watching Orton target Edge's neck with a vicious 'Con-Chair-To'. Having only just returned from nine years away, the prospect of losing Edge again almost broke the WWE Universe.
