10 Biggest Disappointments In WWE Elimination Chamber History

2. Extreme Elimination Chamber

Though this one didn’t take place at an Elimination Chamber PPV, per se, it still employed the stipulation. In fact, this rendition was a lesser-spotted Extreme Elimination Chamber match, although the added gimmickry didn’t do much to save the contest from failure.

Headlining the infamous December to Dismember 2006 show, this particular Chamber match was a whole series of disappointments.

First, Sabu was pulled from the line-up on the very same day of the show. His replacement? Hardcore Holly- not quite a like-for-like substitute given that this was an ECW-branded show. Then, when the match eventually got underway, CM Punk was eliminated first. That’s the same CM Punk who was arguably the most over guy on the ECW roster, as well as Paul Heyman’s pick to win the match outright and become the new face of the brand.

Instead, though, and to add further insult to injury, it was Bobby Lashley - Vince McMahon’s pet project - who escaped with the win to be crowned the new ECW Champion.

Whichever way you look at this one, the match was poorly booked. It was also an illustration of the fundamental issues that plagued the ECW reboot; namely, the conflict between Heyman and McMahon in terms of the overall direction of the product.

Eventually it was Vince who won that battle, though the real losers in all of this were the fans.
