10 Biggest Disappointments In WWE Elimination Chamber History
1. Triple H Defeats Goldberg
As far as disappointing outcomes go, they don’t get much worse than this.
In only the second-ever Elimination Chamber match, a red-hot Goldberg had his sights set on Triple H and the World Heavyweight Championship. He was still undefeated since his debut a few months prior, and with the match taking place on the big stage of SummerSlam, this was the perfect time and place for Goldberg to capture the gold.
The majority of the match went exactly to what should have been the plan. Entering at number five, Goldberg tore through the competition, eliminating Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho within minutes of being released from his pod. The only man left to topple was Triple H - and Goldberg showed no signs of slowing down.
Until, of course, the Trips got his hands on his sledgehammer and countered a spear with a single blow to Goldberg’s head It proved enough to keep him down for the count. Just like that, one of the most memorable rampages in Chamber match history had been abruptly ended, in the blink of an eye, as the villain laid waste to the hero.
A number of factors contributed to make Goldberg’s WWE stint a year to forget, though this was arguably the most damaging of them all.
It was a huge
disappointment both on the night and in the grand scheme of his entire run with the company.
