During an episode of Talk Is Jericho last year, Batista told of when Vince McMahon handed him a substantial fine in 2008. It happened after Chris Jericho and the Animal's steel cage match on RAW where blading took place. Batista talked about an "old school" mentality where if someone saw another man getting hit over the head with a pipe, he'd be expected to bleed. He's right, but not in Vince's eyes.
"This was a point where we weren't shedding blood any more. We were PG and that didn't make any sense to me. I just didn't want to hear that, especially when there's a title match involved. "I can't believe we had to deal with grief over that. "I knew we weren't supposed to do itI knew I would get consequences but I thought I would get the consequences and I didn't think they'd be as harsh as they were. "Then he (McMahon) starts passing out fines... So my fine was $100,000. My heart dropped. I thought it would be like $25,000When he said $100,000, I was just heartbroken. I literally think that he sucked the life out of me that day. I think that's the day that I knew things were never going to be the same."
Dave also paid for the fines handed to Jericho, producer Dean Malenko and referee Mike Chioda. But 100 grand plus for a bit of blood? That's far too severe, no matter how many sponsors you've got to please on a Monday night. I can't begin to imagine what Batista must have been thinking when he watched the amount of Blood spilled during The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar's matches last year...
