9. The World Witnesses Michael Cole Vs Jerry Lawler (WrestleMania 27)
WrestleMania has given the WWE Universe such classic matches as The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels; Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock; and Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior. It is the venue in which the very best of the best can showcase their skills, dazzling and entertaining a rapturous audience. Sadly, the WWE also has a penchant for cluttering Wrestlemania cards with nonsense novelty matches that have little value for anyone watching. One such match was Jerry 'The King' Lawler vs Michael Cole at WrestleMania 27, which stemmed from a feud that bored and infuriated fans in equal measure and yet unfathomably managed to find a place on 3 PPV's in a row! During this period, Cole had evolved from his role as a commentator to a fully fledged antagonistic heel, regularly ruining matches for TV audiences by yelling and moaning and generally not calling anything in the ring. Did Cole's new persona warrant him a slot on the biggest PPV of the year? No, of course not, he's not a wrestler. But WWE forged ahead, stacking the deck in their favour by adding Steve Austin as the Special Guest referee, but the match was simply atrocious. While it was nice to see Lawler finally get a 'WrestleMania moment', he probably wishes it wasn't this one.
