8. Jack Swagger

Apart from his glaring lack of mic skills, the potential was there with Jack Swagger, whose look and background in amateur wrestling inevitably drew some premature comparisons to Brock Lesnar and, to a lesser extent, Kurt Angle.

Like them, he was given an immediate push after arriving in the WWE, winning the ECW Title within a few months of his debut and then the actual, proper world title on SmackDown a short while later.

To some fans, Swagger's being fast-tracked to the main event was something of a slap in the face to the likes of MVP, John Morrison and Shelton Benjamin, guys who, despite their obvious talent had been left toiling in the mid-card for what seemed like an age.

He was rejected as a face, and because he seemed like a genuinely nice guy it also became difficult for him to get over as a proper heel. Directionless, his push ended up coming to a screeching halt soon after his WHC win.
