10 Biggest Final WWE Royal Rumble Entrant Flops
3. Junkyard Dog (1988)
Time spent in match: 02:30
Eliminations: 0
Watching the first ever Royal Rumble match is like revisiting the first season of your favourite TV show. It’s a bit blurry, your favourite characters haven’t quite come into their own yet, and it’s too short. The first Rumble had only twenty participants, and the lack of a fan countdown, or even entrance music, severely reduced the atmosphere. The filming of the match also seemed to be affected as production were still getting to grips with filming the chaotic match stipulation.
#20 The Junkyard Dog floated around, interacting with many of those who shared the ring with him, but doing little of note. When he traded blows with the match’s other big man, One Man Gang, things were looking up, until he was tipped to the outside by Ron Bass.
Dog ultimately spent the least amount of time in the match. It is disappointing for fans revisiting the Hall of Famer’s career that this was his sole Rumble appearance. Junkyard Dog got a measure of revenge against his eliminator, however, taking Bass out of WrestleMania VII’s opening Battle Royal.
