So this might not have been a match between two high profile competitors, but how can I talk about WWE squashes without mentioning this one? It may just be the most brutal squash match in WWE's history.

In 2003 Brock Lesnar was clearly established as an absolute monster. He had ran through The Rock, dominated The Undertaker and F5'd Big Show into oblivion. The next man in his way? Well, that was Zach Gowan.

The Beast Incarnate took on the the first one-legged competitor in pro wrestling on an episode of SmackDown that year, in Zach's hometown of Detroit. At the beginning of the match Brock attempts to intimidate Zach's mother, who to her credit doesn't back down. She probably should have however, as the next few minutes sees Brock decimate her son.

This match resembles a schoolyard beatdown, albeit a schoolyard beatdown with two massive powerbombs. Lesnar picks up a chair, and it gets worse for Gowan. Sure, Gowan wins by disqualification, but Lesnar wins by murder death kill. It is uncomfortable to watch.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
