10 Biggest Holy Sh*t Moments From WWE Hall Of Fame 2020 & 2021
8. Some IWGP Love
WWE generally dislike drawing attention to achievements that happened outside company walls. It's a McMahon quirk, and has been for the longest time. For example, announcers are instructed to pretend that seasoned professionals haven't done anything until they've made it in Vince's league.
That's just the way it is, and that's why it was so amazing to see Jushin Liger's 11 IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title runs get so much praise at the latest Hall Of Fame. In fact, WWE gushed all over the Japanese star's time in NJPW, and even brought up his importance to the dynamic WCW Cruiserweight division in the mid-1990s.
That was unexpected, to be honest.
One believed that WWE might skirt over Liger's career and get through him as quickly as they could. That was sort of the case, but they did so respectfully and didn't cram in any unnecessary, 'Yeah, but he didn't make it in WWE' burials. This was classy, classy stuff.
