10 Biggest Lies In Wrestling

3. Adding A Few Thousand

WWE told us that the attendance for WrestleMania 3 was 93,000 fans. You FILTHY LIARS! Sorry. Okay, so that's an incredible number, and one that is exaggerated by a bit. The real number is believed to be closer to 78,000, which...holy crap is still amazing! But Vince McMahon thought he could get away with adding an extra 15,000 more and hoping no one would notice, and so he did and so it is still repeated in the company’s official lore.

For WrestleMania 32, the WWE wanted to break their own silly made up record at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas, and they also wanted to be able to claim they drew over 100,000 fans...and so they did...and again, it was all made up. Dave Meltzer reported that the actual number was 93,730, which would have still beat the made-up number from Mania 3, but it simply didn’t sound impressive enough.

Beyond that, announcers often claim that pay-per-views and episodes of Raw are sold out, when in fact sections of the arena are closed off or tickets are given away. These are tactics that a lot of promoters (not just wrestling promoters) have done throughout the years, and it’s simply a lie. It’s a pretty harmless one, but it’s just one of those goofy things that they get away with, because there’s no real repercussions to being called out for it.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
