10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In WWE History
8. Christian As Champion
Edge had a highly successful singles run after splitting with his long-time tag team partner, but Christian had to look elsewhere.
He’d go on to prove his credentials as a headline-calibre wrestler throughout a fruitful three years with TNA, and when injuries forced Edge to retire and vacate his World Heavyweight Championship in 2011, Christian was the perfect candidate to step-in.
WWE quickly booked a match between Alberto Del Rio and Edge’s former partner, and at Extreme Rules 2011, Christian won the belt. A man who was once forced elsewhere for main event opportunities had returned to the company and followed in his best friend’s footsteps.
In itself, Christian’s title victory was a great moment, but it all came crashing down shortly after.
Christian’s feelgood story hit a screeching halt just 5 days later, when he dropped the belt to Randy Orton on SmackDown. Having already proven himself as an outstanding wrestler and one of WWE’s most entertaining personalities, there was no need for Christian’s reign to be cut short.
WWE had a great opportunity to make Christian a singles star on the same level as his esteemed partner, Edge, and they blew it.
