Last week saw the soon-to-retire Kurt Angle name Baron Corbin as his opponent for his WrestleMania 35 "Farewell Match," prompting chants of "we want Cena" from a bewildered live crowd and widespread negativity from all but the biggest 'Lone Wolf' fans. It's a dull, underwhelming final battle for the legend, and the reaction has been overwhelmingly negative.

The booking does make a slither of narrative sense, though. Corbin and Angle have butted heads several times over the past few months, particularly while serving in their respective authority figure roles. They're faced each other in several tag bouts, and Corbin scored a notable singles victory over Angle on Raw's 28 January episode, besting the Olympian in under four minutes. Thus, it's understandable that Kurt would want revenge on his way out.

Whether or not the clash actually goes ahead remains to be seen, despite wrestling media's assertions that it will. Everything about this feels like a troll job. Corbin's an effective stooge heel, and exactly the kind of guy you'd place in this spot before a swerve, and the promotion must have foreseen this kind of reaction. If they didn't, they're blinder than any of us could've known.
