10 Biggest Power Trips In WWE History

9. The 'Two-Man Power Trip' Angle Fails

Make no mistake about it, Steve Austin regrets turning heel at WrestleMania X-Seven. On his podcast years later, 'The Rattlesnake' still maintains he should have called an audible, hitting Vince McMahon with a Stunner instead of shaking his hand. This would have kept him babyface, because fans really didn't want to boo him in 2001. Nonetheless, the WWF plodded ahead with their plan to team him with Triple H. Shortly after 'Mania, Austin started aligning himself with the man he had just tried to kill at Survivor Series. Dropping Triple H's car from a great height didn't seem to sully their business relationship when it suited creative. Keep in mind, the 'Two-Man Power Trip' angle came about less than 6 months after both Austin and Triple H had started intensely feuding. In fact, at February's No Way Out, both men beat the hell out of one another in a '3 Stages Of Hell' encounter. Suddenly, fans were expected to believe they were the best of friends just because Austin turned on The Rock and shook McMahon's hand? The teaming just didn't make much sense, and there was little in the way of explanation on television. It was a bit arrogant to assume fans would just accept the storyline without any context.
