10 Biggest Problems Facing WWE Right Now

9. Saudi Arabia

No matter how good of a run WWE is on, twice a year they have to go to Saudi Arabia to the ire of fans. Following Crown Jewel 2021, hopefully these shows continue to be quality events as opposed to a public laughing stock. Even if the on screen product does improve, it does not change the fact that there are several issues with the partnership for WWE.

Each time a Saudi event draws close, WWE is forced to ignore Sami Zayn due to his Syrian descent and the strained relationship between these two countries. Kevin Owens, in turn, chooses to opt out of the Saudi shows, and the hefty pay day that comes along with it, to support his lifelong best friend.

Then there are the issues with the presentation of women in Saudi Arabia. It is remarkable WWE has moved the Saudi government to allow women to wrestle at their events, it still highlights the mistreatment of women in the country for generations. WWE loves to highlight the success of the Women’s Evolution, only to undo it twice a year to bend to the demands of an outdated and oppressive government.

While the relationship with Saudi Arabia is a proverbial cash cow for WWE, all of the issues should not be ignored. WWE needs to do everything possible to modernize how Saudi Arabia presents professional wrestling.
