10 Biggest Shocks In WWE WrestleMania History
7. Mick Foley And The Flaming Table
In the grand scale of mad Mick Foley moments, this perhaps wouldn’t scrape the top three, but as far as WrestleMania extreme spectacles go, it takes some beating. The ‘Mania 22 hardcore match between Edge and Foley was a proper show stealer, and the intention was to give Mick a moment to remember at the big show.
The majority of the match skirted around that, with great spots and storytelling (including Foley wearing a barbed wire vest to neutralise Edge’s spear), blood and guts. It needed something to tip it over the top, though, and it got that in the form of the finish.
As is WWE’s wont, a table had been set up outside the ring. A simple bump wouldn’t suffice, though; instead, Lita set it on fire, Edge hit another spear, and he and Foley went piling into the inferno where Edge picked up a fortunate win.
It’s a crazy risk delivered with perfect timing by all concerned, and sold magnificently by Edge, who looks shaken to the core even as his hand is raised in victory. Best of all, it gave the Hardcore Legend the WrestleMania moment he deserved.
