4 September 1995 will go down in history as the first shot of the Monday Night Wars, and it happened on live television.

WCW swung out of the gate by not only putting on a weekly live show, but even adding an extra hour onto Monday Nitro. Initially, Vince didn't really do much to try and put the brakes on Nitro's advances. Once the nWo angle kicked off and started to dominate Raw on a weekly basis, that's when McMahon started taking influence. Raw was given an extra hour, rebranded to "Raw Is War", and most importantly, started to go live every other week.

Yeah, technically Raw wouldn't go live on a mostly-weekly basis until the summer of '99, but the influence is still clear. Besides, the taped nature of some episodes worked to the benefit of WWF... remember when WCW sent their entire audience to Raw Is War to see Mankind win the WWF Championship?

Of course you do, it was amazing.
