Perhaps more immediately obvious in the one-to-one war, SmackDown existed thanks entirely to WCW Thunder.
Widely considered to be the official turning point for WCW's downward spiral, it's a bit odd that WWF decided to throw another show onto Thursday nights. Although considering how much better off they were doing in the war by 1999, bets were safe assuming that SmackDown would consistently beat out Thunder as the more popular of the two.
And it did.
SmackDown proved to be the more successful Thursday night show without even batting an eyelash. Thunder as a whole was pretty much a hot mess, so Vince swooping in and taking the idea of an extra show and having it run its course all the way into a new brand in 2018 was massively successful in the long run.
