It may be hard to believe that Damien Sandow, the guy who has been relegated to working WWE Superstars every week as a Randy Savage knock-off, was once in the good graces of management, but make no mistake about: behind the goofy gimmick is an incredible performer.

After not finding success as Idol Stevens, he was rechristened as Damien Sandow in April 2012 and appeared primarily on the SmackDown brand. From his ability to get under the audience's skin to the way he held the microphone, his "holier than thou" character was the complete package and it's no surprise that most of it was of Triple H's doing.

Sandow's persona early on strongly resembled the Hunter Hearst Helmsley gimmick Triple H had when he first came to WWE, a comparison obviously due to him being a pet project of Triple H. He put Sandow over in his premiere appearance on Raw 1000 when he had him interrupt his and the rest of DX's reunion. Although The Intellectual Savior of the Masses was on the receiving end of a Pedigree that night, it was only after a verbal sparring on the mic with the legendary faction.

Sandow's hard work culminated with a Money in the Bank win just 12 months later, but despite Triple H's backing of him, he has yet to escape the undercard.
