Montel Vontavious Porter, or MVP for short, was treated as a joke when he made his in-ring debut at No Mercy 2006. He won a lame squash match while the announcers buried him. Thankfully, this was all intentional and part of his gimmick, not a case of him simply sucking and JBL going into business for himself. MVP looked better when he was in the ring with veterans like Kane and The Undertaker but he really shined when he engaged in a feud with his real life backstage mentor Chris Benoit. The Rabid Wolverine brought out the best in MVP and showed the world that he could actually wrestle. Further entertaining mini-fueds with Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair and Matt Hardy followed and life was good for MVP. But he never made the step up to World Heavyweight Championship contender like some had hoped/predicted. He was incredibly charismatic, over and could have a great match. So what happened? MVP's switch to Raw in 2009 didn't help. Neither did his lame team with Mark Henry. He just floundered, going nowhere, until he was switched back to Smackdown and then released shortly thereafter so he could pursue his dream of wrestling in Japan. MVP had a good WWE career, sure, but it should and could have been so much better.
