10 Biggest Unification Matches In Wrestling History
4. Ultimo Dragon vs. Dean Malenko - J Crown/WCW Cruiserweight Championships (Starrcade 96)
Are you a fan of catch-as-catch-can-wrestling? This match is right up your alley. New Japan Pro Wrestling held a tournament to unify eight junior heavyweight titles called the J-Crown. The J-Crown was made up of the: British Commonwealth Junior Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship, NWA World Welterweight Championship, UWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship, WAR International Junior Heavyweight Championship and WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship. Even the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship, which was used in Mexico before the WWF introduced it to TV in 1997, was up for grabs. Dragon would win that tournament and would go on to make his WCW pay-per view debut at 1996's Hog Wild, unsuccessfully challenging Rey Misterio Jr. for the WCW World Cruiserweight title. Following the defeat he took a break from the company but would return with his J-Crown Championships, in all their glory. He then launched himself into a feud with Dean Malenko for the WCW Cruiserweight strap. Ultimo would add the WCW belt to his impressive collection of eight titles at Starrcade '96, defeating the man of 1000 holds in a classic. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1wu1pc_ultimo-dragon-vs-dean-malenko-wcw-starrcade-1996_sport
