54 years prior, Bruno Sammartino wasn't so fortunate.

As legend has it, Bruno was munching some well-earned grub following a successful WWWF Title defence against Tarzan Tyler at Madison Square Garden. Rather than taking the belt into the Manhattan restaurant with him, Sammartino left it in his car. That'd prove to be a huge mistake.

Someone sneakily broke into the vehicle and stole one of the biggest championships in pro wrestling history. Bruno, who'd been too busy refuelling his body after working another intense match in the Garden, didn't find out the belt he'd just defended had been nicked until he returned to his car after his meal.

There, on 27 September 1965, the legendary Bruno Sammartino had to tell Vince McMahon Sr. that he didn't have his title anymore. Some random criminal did. Police would never find the championship, or finger any culprit. Bruno's belt was lost forever.
