10 Biggest Wrestling Matches That Never Happened

4. The Undertaker Vs. Sting

I realize I am cheating a bit on my own rules here, as Sting and Taker did wrestle in WCW. But my justification is that they fought before Taker was even Taker, as he was Mark Callous at the time. I’ve exploited my own loophole!

Well, unlike the other matches on this list, there’s not a single good reason why this match didn’t happen in WWE. Vince McMahon had the opportunity to present this dream match at WrestleMania 31, but they went a different route and it came back to bite them.

Instead of delivering the two mysterious icons of WCW and WWF, a match that fans had dreamed about for years, they gave us Hunter vs. Sting, which wasn’t a natural fit. But amazingly, Hunter finds a way to take on the most popular face on the card at every year’s show, so that meant Sting was his for the night. Taker, meanwhile, battled Bray Wyatt, who at that point was already badly damaged goods.

A better route to have gone would have been babyface Hunter vs. Wyatt (or heel Hunter taking on a young wrestler of any sort), and going with Taker and Sting. It would have been one incredibly memorable WrestleMania match, instead of the company delivering two forgettable ones on the show.

With Sting getting injured months later, this dream bout has seemingly been taken off the table forever. When you're dealing with two banged up 50 years olds, sometimes it's best to book them in a match as soon as possible.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
