10 Biggest Wrestling Matches That Never Happened

3. Randy Savage Vs. The Rock

At WrestleMania 20 and 21, The Rock was rumored to have wanted Sting or Randy Savage in a legends match for the show. Vince McMahon was not to keen on this idea. Feel free to speculate why. While Sting vs. Rock would have been fascinating, Savage would have been even better.

The sad thing is, Savage’s last match was pretty damn depressing. He deserved a far better in-ring ending than his early TNA appearance, where he just threw a couple punches and sat on Jeff Jarrett for the pin. While his physique wasn't too impressive at the time, perhaps if he had six months of training to get ready for a battle with The Rock, he could have looked the part better.

Savage would have been in his early 50s at the time, though, as we’ve seen with Sting and Goldberg, it's not impossible to make a wrestler look close to what they did in their prime. But what would have made it work is the promo work alone. Seeing Savage and Rock face-to-face would have been a Rock/Hogan type moment. Two of the most charismatic performers in the history of the business battling it out on the mic would have been electrifying.

Even if the match would have been a dud from an athletic standpoint, there's no doubt they could have made it work through their charisma alone.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
