There's no doubt about it, this is the kind of angle that WWE officials were hoping would be forgotten about during Linda McMahon's run for office in politics. Unsurprisingly, Linda's opponents in the race for Senate didn't overlook her middle-aged husband forcing a woman 20 years his junior to strip off her clothes and bark like a dog on live television. Just before the acclaimed WrestleMania X-Seven Pay-Per-View in 2001, this sorry angle came to a head on Monday Night Raw. Looking to belittle his 'assistant', Stratus, McMahon lorded it over the woman, stripping her down to her lingerie and telling her to get down on her hands and knees and beg him for forgiveness. The live crowd lapped it up, but there were a few uncomfortable looks as Vince made Trish bark like a mutt, and beg him to give her another chance. A flood of complaints came in as soon as the segment was finished, but it's been said that controversy creates cash, all this did was turn more heads towards what the promotion were doing, and the monster buyrate for 'Mania didn't suffer one bit.
