10 Biggest WWE Creative Mistakes Of 2018 (So Far)
3. Bobby Lashley's Return Arc
A crash course on how not to reintroduce a former star to a new audience after over a decade away, Bobby Lashley’s return arc has been so grand a disaster that it may have destroyed his chances of ever getting over in WWE.
It began with a cold comeback angle the night after ‘Mania. Lashley would the go weeks without a program, but perhaps this was a good thing, given the quality of what they eventually lumbered him with.
The Sami Zayn storyline was a catastrophe, with the unwatchable sisters segment standing among the year’s worst. Without any real character development, Bobby was made to look like a smiling, bumbling oaf in the face of Sami’s constant trolling, and it all culminated in an insomnia-curing Money In The Bank squash, with Zayn defeated via cocky pin after two hanging vertical suplexes.
WWE are now trying to build Lashley’s popularity through a program with Roman Reigns, but nobody’s biting. It’s impossible to take the personality-less bruiser seriously after the last few months. Impact finally moulded him into the dominator WWE always wanted him to be, and Vince has undone all that work in depressingly quick fashion, leaving Bobby with little hope of making it.
