10 Biggest WWE Creative Mistakes Of 2019 (So Far)
8. The Abysmal Stomping Grounds Build
Stomping Grounds will probably be fine. WWE pay-per-views tend to over-deliver and those with the least hype are often sleeper shows, with the card somehow transcending its lacklustre build with a night of good, solid action.
"Lacklustre" doesn't cover Stomping Grounds' build, though. The run-in to this bland-looking B-tier show has been putrid.
The night's five biggest bouts are all rematches. Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss was one of 2017's worst feuds, with 'The Hugger's' burial cemented in that awful Kendo Stick on a Pole match. Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre bored the MetLife Stadium to tears at WrestleMania 35, Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans went down at Money In The Bank, and Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin and Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler underwhelmed at Super ShowDown.
There isn't much to get fired up about elsewhere either. Samoa Joe vs. Ricochet could be awesome, but it was thrown together on six days' notice. As great as Tony Nese, Akira Tozawa, and Drew Gulak are, fans have been conditioned into not caring about the Cruiserweight division since its inception. Heavy Machinery as Tag Title contenders? Okay, sure. Whatever.
It's a good job buyrates are no longer a thing.
