5. Cutting Close To The Bone With Pipebomb Promo
When CM Punk sat down, crossed his legs and exploded verbally on the June 27, 2011 episode of Monday Night Raw, the entire wrestling world went crazy. That single promo was one of the most incredible fans had witnessed for years, it was shocking to hear someone slate everyone from Vince and Stephanie McMahon, to Triple H and the WWE system overall. Even John Cena inside the ring must have been a little taken aback. Punk name checked Colt Cabana, and also spoke about New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor. It was a stunning tirade, one which became known as his own personal 'Pipebomb Promo'. Some marvelled at how he 'pulled one over' on WWE, but the fact is there's no way his mic wouldn't have been cut off if the company didn't want it aired. Management let Punk deliver quite the diatribe, but there were some close to the bone moments. When he started talking about the way things work in WWE, it seemed very real. It's likely a few staff members in the production truck were fully expecting McMahon to tell them to cut the live mic. It's startling that Punk managed to get away with some of the things he said.
