10 Biggest WWE Disappointments Of 2021

7. Bobby Lashley vs Kofi Kingston

This SummerSlam match did, in fairness, serve a purpose. Under the influence of MVP, Heavyweight champion Bobby Lashley was enjoying the good things in life to the detriment of his *ss-kicking credentials. Going into the PPV he was determined to restore his aura the only way he knew how: by making mincemeat of his latest title challenger.

That’s all well and good, but did it have to be Kofi Kingston? The New Day man was the recipient of one of the pops of the night on his appearance, and we’ve seen that he has the credentials to be a genuine main event player. And yet he was given next to no offense in this extended squash.

Bobby’s title run was a highlight of 2021, and it’s hard to see how putting together a match with Kofi that was at least somewhat competitive could possibly have hurt him. There are plenty of other wrestlers he could have trampled on if he needed that boost.

The whole New Day vs Hurt Business theme sort of paid off when Big E eventually snatched the title from Lashley’s grip, but sacrificing Kofi (who’d been mugged off by Brock Lesnar in his last title match) was a bum note.
