10 Biggest WWE Disappointments Of 2021

8. Cesaro's Main Event Run

More fool us for believing that, this time, things were actually going to go right for Cesaro. The Swiss Cyborg had a 2021 of two halves. He started things off beating Daniel Bryan clean in a smashing TV match before building momentum on his way to a first ever singles match at WrestleMania. He and Seth Rollins put on a clinic, and Cesaro got an ovation when he won.

Then, he was thrust into a programme with Roman Reigns. While no one imagined he’d dethrone the Head Of The Table, seeing Cesaro topline a card in a lengthy match, and going toe to toe with WWE’s most dominant force, was a breath of fresh air. Finally, after so much great work, Cesaro was occupying the spot he deserved.

Only, no, he wasn’t. Of course he wasn’t: Vince McMahon has said on record that he doesn’t see Cesaro as a top guy and has no interest in booking him as such. Following the title bout, Cesaro ended his feud with Seth Rollins as the loser and slid back down the card. He was last seen once again working with Sheamus (the two have great chemistry but we’ve seen this so many times).

Cesaro’s in astonishing shape but he’s no spring chicken, and this felt like a last chance saloon of sorts. He’s destined to be the company’s most underutilised wrestler for life.
